Fruit

Zapote

Zapote

Unremarkable outside, orange inside.

A hard leathery green brown skin with a thick stem, and under it deep orange flesh, soft and fairly fibrous. Inside are large seeds wrapped in fibres you chew the flesh off. This is not a fruit for a knife and fork, it is a fruit for your hands and a napkin.

The taste sits somewhere between pumpkin, mango and melon, sweet and dense. Nothing that grows at home is anything like it. To me it tastes a little like a sweet carrot.

Praktická poznámkaYour teeth will not love this fruit, but your interdental brushes will.
